Kismet
Multi award-winng restaurant, Kismet was opened in 1967, and is proud to be the longest established Indian restaurant in Whitley Bay. Generations of local families have enjoyed the best of cuisines.
This family run restaurant’s reputation is far reaching.
So much so, that at this year’s prestigious British Bangladeshi Business Awards 2019, Kismet won Best Restaurant - Northumberland. An accolade that was well deserved.
Few restaurants in the area can claim to be this highly though of.
Coast Kitchen & Bar
A cosy and casual neighbourhood hangout in the heart of Tynemouth Village.

Serving locally sourced food crafted in-house to eat in or take away, alongside an impressive range of soft and alcoholic beverages, you’ll find a warm welcome at this small, family-friendly restaurant, whether you’re a breakWhen it comes to dining, there is nothing old fashioned about the menu, however. The Anglers Arms serves up well presented, well cooked food, made using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.
Riverdale Hall Hotel
Nestling on the outskirts of the lovely market town of Bellingham it is the Riverdale Hall Hotel - a gorgeous, traditional country house hotel that is renowned for serving delicious cuisine in a stylish setting.
This Les Routiers Gold Plate award-winning restaurant prides itself on the quality of its food. All the dishes are created using the finest seasonal produce available. The Chicken Breast stuffed with Chorizo and wrapped in Prosciutto and served with fondant potato comes recommend.
Shahenshah
Shahenshah is renowned in the area for serving delicious Indian cuisine.
Kamal
Dining at Kamal is a sensory experience for your eyes and your tastebuds. Everything is presented to the highest possible standard.
When it comes to flavours, the highly skilled chefs use locally sourced ingredients to create authentic dishes (plus spices from a little further afield!). Everything is cooked to order, to ensure maximum freshness and taste, and they are happy to accommodate specific requests or requirements.
Anglers Arms
Originally an 18th century coaching inn, The Anglers Arms still retains all its old charm. It is full of curios and fascinating bits and bobs and has a really lovely, cosy atmosphere.
When it comes to dining, there is nothing old fashioned about the menu, however. The Anglers Arms serves up well presented, well cooked food, made using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.
From a sandwich or tasty lunch, to fresh fish and hearty pies - everything is made freshly to order.
The Imperial
Located on Durham Road, The Imperial in Gateshead offers diners a chance to experience authentic Cantonese dishes without the fine dining price tag. With a stunning oriental interior and authentic recipes, diners are transported to China in the heart of the North East.
The Imperial offers a good selection of banquet menus - perfect for trying something new.
Aneesa's Buffet
Aneesa’s Buffet Restaurant, Newcastle Quayside, serves up delicious Indian and Punjabi cuisine... plus more. They offer diners huge choice, with a range of starters, sundries, curries, pizzas and desserts - all for one set price.
Buffets offer the ideal opportunity to try loads of different flavours, maybe sampling dishes you would not normally order.

Last Days of the Raj
The Last Days of the Raj found a stunning new home in a 19th century building, previously home to the Bay Horse public house. A chandelier, warm woods, stylish flooring and comfy leather seating all combine to offer diners a touch of luxury.
Looking after visitors are front of house manger Farid Ahmed and operations manager Syed Rahman, as well as the skilled chefs and impeccable waiting staff.
Waren House Hotel
This stunning Georgian house offers stunning food to match its impressive surroundings. In 2015, The hotel’s Grays Restaurant was awarded 2 AA Rosettes for excellence, under the leadership of head chef Steve Owens. He and his team of four other chefs create dishes which highlight the quality and diversity of modern Northumbrian cuisine.
The majority of ingredients are sourced from local suppliers.
Shampan Indian Restaurant  & Cocktai
Kamrul Hussain and his team at Shampan pride themselves on using the highest quality, often locally sourced ingredients to create authentic dishes which showcase the flavours of India, Punjab and Bangladesh. Their head chef has more than 20 years’ experience, so is happy to adapt all dishes to each diner’s individual tastes.
Alongside traditional dishes, you will find a range of ‘Chef’s Specialities’ as well as ‘Shampan Creations’.
Shukran
Shukran means “thank you” in Arabic, and there is a lot to be thankful for when you visit Shukran. Its menu draws influences from India, Mongolia, Bengal and Afghanistan, to name a few. They offer authentic, classic Indian dishes, but also an awful lot more.
Shukran is run by Faz Tahir and his family, who have been in the restaurant business for many years. They take pride in providing diners with a personal service, including a friendly welcome and attention to detail throughout.
Grand Sultan
Grand Sultan is situated in an unenviable location, just above Longsands beach in Tynemouth.
The sumptuous interior is visually stunning, and the food delivers on both style and taste.
There is a really interesting menu that includes all of the usual choices, but then it tempts the diner with some dishes which are unique to Grand Sultan, and well worth trying!

Cafe Spice
Award-winning Cafe Spice Restaurant & Street Food has earned a reputation for quality and excellence and it’s a firm favourite in the Heaton community. What’s more, this wonderful restaurant recently received an acolade. They were awarded the title of “Best Restaurant in Newcastle” from the Chef TV Reality Show, and were therefore classed as the shows ‘Restaurant of the Year’.
The Spread Eagle
The Spread Eagle in Preston Village, North Shields has pub tradition at its heart. This award-winning pub is what an English pub should be all about - great cask ales, fantastic food and a home-from-home atmosphere. The pub is the oldest pub in the area, with parts of the building dating back at least 200 years. Its interior has a lovely mix of old-world charm and contemporary touches, there is also an external terrace to enjoy a drink and food in the summer months.
The Blake
This stunning gastropub is owned and run by the team behind the Spread Eagle, in North Shields.
The Blake is a contemporary pub and eatery with tradition firmly at its heart. They offer their customers a fantastic range of cask ales, world lagers, spirits, soft drinks and a delicious range of home-cooked food.
All the dishes are freshly prepared with locally sourced ingredients. The Blake is a great place to meet up loved ones and family and it is also dog friendly.
Siam Supreme
Siam Supreme is a charming, intimate restaurant that serves authentic, home-style Thai cuisine.
They have a fantastic menu which showcases some of the most incredible tasting Thai food. All the dishes are made and spiced to order using fresh ingredients and Halal meat. If you feel in a sharing mood the Supreme Platter is a great option.
Jashn Indian Restaurant
Jashn is an award-winning restaurant that really stands out from the crowd. Not only do they specialise in serving low-fat, healthy Indian food and have been recognised as one of the top UK curry houses to do this; this year they have reached the final of the North East Curry Awards, which is a tremendous achievement.
Jashn’s menu has been designed to ensure all customers enjoy the finest dishes. The dishes are all prepared using the freshest of ingredients, carefully blended spices.
The Earl of Pitt Street
Situated within a stone’s throw of St. James’ Park, The Earl Of Pitt Street raises the bar when it comes to style and great tasting food. With an Alfred Hitchcock meets Vivienne Westwood inspired interior and dog-friendly lounge, you will not come across a similar place anywhere.
The menu boasts a range of different dishes ranging from traditional pub favourites such as The Earl’s beer battered fish and chips, to Asian inspired fusion food.

The Wheatsheaf
The Wheatsheaf Inn has long been known for the quality of its food, with a specials menu complementing its already excellent main menu. We really can attest to the quality of the food being created here. The menus are full of imaginative dishes, cooked with fantastic attention to detail and real flair, such as Pan Fried Scallops with Pork Belly, Onion Puree and Pickled Apple, or Venison Loin with Beetroot and Mushrooms.
The Percy Arms
The Percy Arms is a great place to head to for delicious food in a cosy setting. You can choose to sit in the bar area - which is also dog friendly and has a log fire in the winter - or in the separate dining area.
There is a lunch menu available Monday to Saturday 12-3pm, offering starters such as Wild Mushrooms in a White Truffle & Garlic Sauce, and mains such as Oven Baked North Sea Salmon, Fennel and Garlic Sautéed Potatoes.
